What's a Virtual Race?

It's like a traditional race, but it takes place in a location and time of your choice. You can walk, jog or run wherever you may be, and at any time during the race week, for a 5k or a 10k distance.

You'll receive great real-world rewards like a medal, T-shirt, certificate, race bib and more, plus two bonus training missions and access to a supportive and motivating online community of thousands of runners.

How is the Zombies, Run! Virtual Race different from other Virtual Races?

There are three big differences:

  1. With our free Zombies, Run! app, you’ll be immersed in a thrilling audio-driven story that progresses with every kilometer you run. Specially created for the event, the mission makes running way more fun and exciting than the typical race. You’ll also receive training missions beforehand to prepare you for the race day.

  2. The app will automatically post your race time to our live leaderboard, so you can compare it against other runners. No need to report it yourself!

  3. You get access to our private members-only forum, ROFFLENET, where you can swap tips with other runners, and chat with the designers and writers behind Zombies, Run!

What do I get?

You can choose from three different race entries:

  • The Starter: You get a race packet that includes a finisher’s medal, certificate, race bib, and badge, along with the Virtual Race audio adventure itself. You’ll also gain access to our private ROFFLENET race forum, two bonus training missions, race tips, and more.

  • The Runner 5: All of The Starter, plus a lightweight pro-spec performance T-shirt, with a silky-soft inside, flat seam stitching, and a micro-texture fabric exterior for even moisture distribution.

  • The Pro: All of The Starter, plus a long-sleeve pro-spec performance T-shirt.

What’s the story of the Spring 2017 Virtual Race?

It’s the early days of the zombie apocalypse, and a train has crashed in the Channel Tunnel, trapping 500 souls along with 1 zombie. You are Rescue 5, and you are part of the only team that can rescue the survivors. Can you save them?

Can I walk the race?

Absolutely! There is no time limit and no disadvantage if you take your time. In our previous races, thousands of people walked the 5k and the 10k distances.

Is there a difference between the 5k and 10k races?

You get the same thrilling story in both races, although in the 10k version you may hear more incidental dialogue.

Can I do both the 5k and 10k races?

Definitely! By entering, you get access to both races.

Can I run the race multiple times?

Sure! Even better, all of your race times will appear on our live leaderboard.

Do I need to play Zombies, Run! to participate?

Not at all. The story is completely standalone and will be exciting and fun even if you haven’t played a single minute of Zombies, Run! It’s set within the Zombies, Run! universe, so if you do go on to play the main app, you might recognise some characters.

Do I need to have run the previous Virtual Races to participate?

No. The story is standalone.

Do I need a Zombies, Run! Pro Membership to participate?

No.

Does the Spring 2017 Virtual Race have any Zombies, Run! spoilers?

None at all. It’s set before the events of Season 1, early on in the zombie apocalypse, so you can participate even if you’ve just started running with us.

How long does shipping take?

We despatch all race packets at least 4 weeks before the start of the virtual race. Delivery can take up to four weeks:

UK: Around 1 week
EU: Around 1-2 weeks
US and Rest of World: 1-4 weeks

Where do you ship to?

We ship internationally! Due to a large number of missing parcels, we are unfortunately unable to ship to Mexico or South Africa.

What phone do I need?

For best performance, we recommend either:

iPhone 5 or above
Android phone with at least 1GB RAM running Android 4.2+

You can download our Zombies, Run! app for free, and try it out!

Can I run indoors or on a treadmill?

Yes! We will use your phone’s accelerometer to count your steps and estimate your distance from your stride length. Alternatively you can use ‘constant speed’ to simulate a particular running speed.

If you’re running outdoors, we recommend using GPS tracking for best performance.
